What is MCP
MCP is the connective layer between models and the tools they use.
Instead of one-off integrations or custom plug-ins, it offers a shared language for exposing functionality to agents. It’s how an OpenAI agent will soon call your API, query your database, or trigger workflows — without custom code or risky workarounds.
The protocol’s goal is simple: make intelligent systems interoperable, secure, and auditable by default.
AI agents are autonomous entities capable of perceiving their environment, reasoning about goals, and taking actions without explicit human direction. They interact through APIs, workflows, and protocols like the Model Context Protocol (MCP), connecting seamlessly to tools, systems, and users.
These agents represent a structural change in how software gets developed and maintained. As organizations adopt them, they’ll need to rethink their infrastructure, governance, and readiness — not just in terms of code, but control.
